The amsmath package provides a handful of options for displaying equations. You can choose the layout that better suits your document, even if the equations are really long, or if you have to include several equations in the same line. The standard LaTeX tools for equations may lack some flexibility, causing overlapping or even trimming part of the equation when it's too long.
The first time you insert an equation, select Use MathType, or turn it on in Preferences:. To make equation authoring easier, the equation editor is in math mode by default, so it isn't necessary to add math mode commands to your equations. If an equation is by itself on a line of text, the equation centers based on the equals sign.
You can insert equation symbols outside a math region by using Math AutoCorrect. For more information, see Use Math AutoCorrect rules outside of math regions check box. You can also create math equations using on the keyboard using a combination of keywords and math autocorrect codes.
